She has held roles in Engineering, Sales, Product Development and Operations within Financial Services, Telecommunications, eComm and SaaS companies including Sprint, AT&T Wireless, US Bank, Expedia, and currently DocuSign. In her roles as the CISO, Vanessa has built and led teams to successfully deal with the ever-changing information security threats. She has a deep understanding of the governance required and the strategic elements needed to run information security as an effective risk management function. At DocuSign, she has led the team through a hyper growth period ensuring that the pillar of security was a key differentiator in the marketplace. Her understanding of the international regulatory environment has allowed her to lead and develop effective global security teams. Vanessa is active within the cyber security community including being on the Board of SecureWorld and the Evanta CISO Executive Summit. She also advises several VCs in their due diligence process around security start-ups. As an Advisory Board member for Cybereason and ReactMobile, private security companies, she utilizes her expertise to assist them in the areas of fundraising, organizational development and strategy. In addition to her private Advisory Board work, Vanessa also led the Board Nominating Committee at the Washington Trails Association, the nation's largest state-based hiking nonprofit organization. Vanessa has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley, a MBA from Stanford University and a MS in Telecommunications from University of Colorado, Boulder. She has industry recognized security certifications including CISSP, CISM, GSEC, and CRISC. She also holds the Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe (CIPP/E) certification. Vanessa lectures at the University of Washington, teaching a Masters level class entitled, “Leading and Managing Enterprise Information Security” and is a published thought leader in the incident response area.

John has 30+ years of information technology experience & 15+ years as a college professor. As Security Architect for John Deere he managed infrastructure and developed strategy and secure architecture solutions for protecting a global corporate network, endpoints, industrial systems and the supply chain. His experience spans the public and private sectors, as well as industry verticals: technology, manufacturing, finance, energy, healthcare, education. John started his career as network security manager for the Theoretical Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory and an experimental nuclear physicist developing systems for nuclear remediation and non-proliferation.

John has developed and taught numerous graduate cybersecurity courses and helped develop the CISO executive certificate program with University of Chicago, Booth School of Management. He is a security blogger & frequent speaker at industry conferences and has served as program committee member for RSA Conference, Black Hat & InfowarCon. John is founder of CornCon. Over his career, he has served in leadership roles in professional societies, including IEEE, InfraGard and (ISC)2. John is an IEEE Senior Member, Charter Member/FAIR Institute, Distinguished Fellow/Ponemon Institute. John is passionate about educating kids about cybersecurity and online privacy & safety.
