Mary Ellen LaCien
Mediator
Mary Ellen has a MSIR from Loyola University. She worked as a Field Examiner at the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) for 7 years and as a Mediator for the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) for 9 years prior to starting her own mediation practice. At FMCS, the core work was mediating collective bargaining and discrimination disputes, and training labor and management in communication, conflict resolution and interest-based bargaining. In addition, she worked with schools in establishing peer mediation programs and training students in communication,problem-solving and conflict resolution.
In her mediation practice, she primarily mediates employment discrimination claims. She also works with students on developing Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills. SEL skills encompass self awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.
