Sylvia Rios is General Counsel of the Illinois Education Association (IEA). Ms. Rios provides advice and representation to IEA on a variety of labor, employment, and education law matters and oversees its legal department. Before becoming IEA General Counsel, she held the position Associate General Counsel for seven years. Prior to joining IEA, Ms. Rios served as Assistant Attorney General in the Illinois Attorney General Office’s Employment Unit defending state agencies and employees in state and federal employment discrimination matters. She also has worked as a Staff Attorney with the Illinois Labor Relations Board and began her legal career as an Associate with the union-side law firm Jacobs, Burns, Orlove and Hernandez.
