Sabreena El-Amin is a Partner at CTM Legal Group, LLC. Sabreena focuses her practice on litigation with an area focus on labor and employment rights. She has represented corporate and individual clients in a broad range of areas including condominium owners' rights, discrimination, wage and hour, leave laws, labor rights, divorce, and breach of contract. Sabreena has practiced in a variety of forums including local, state, and federal administrative agencies, trial courts, and appellate courts. Sabreena also has extensive experience conducting investigations and advising corporate clients on employment matters, including drafting policies and handbooks.
Prior to joining CTM, Sabreena served as the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the City of Chicago's Office of the Inspector General. Sabreena's primary responsibility in this role was investigating the policies and practices of the Chicago Police Department for evidence of discrimination and bias as required by the Consent Decree entered in Illinois v. Chicago. Sabreena also assisted with misconduct investigations of City vendors, employees, and officials, consulted on program reviews for other City departments, and coordinated the office's diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
Sabreena gained litigation experience as a Labor and Employment associate representing various management-side clients at large Chicago law firms. Sabreena earned her JD from Harvard Law School, where she served as a contributor and editor of the Journal of Racial and Ethnic Justice and the Journal of Law and Mind Sciences. During law school, Sabreena clerked at a civil rights law firm where she assisted in representing individuals in police misconduct matters. Sabreena also served as the President of the Student Association of Law and Mind Sciences and Street Law Chair for the Black Law Student Association where she coordinated efforts for law students to go into the community and teach individuals their rights and responsibilities under the law.
Sabreena earned a BA in Psychology from DePaul University. During her time at DePaul, Sabreena interned with the Egan Urban Center developing, implementing, and evaluating programs focused on social justice and community development. Sabreena is a native of Chicago's South Side and a graduate of Whitney Young High School.
Sabreena currently serves as an Adjunct Professor teaching Professional Identity at Loyola University College of Law and Lawyering Skills 2 at UIC College of Law . She also volunteers her time as a mentor for various legal pipeline programs including Council for Legal Education Opportunity (CLEO), PILI, and Just the Beginning Foundation and for iMentor.
Sabreena's commitment to public interest law has led to a rewarding pro bono practice and connection with the Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI) where she has served as an intern, fellow, board member, and Co-Chair of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Working Group. She currently serves as a Founding Member of the Young Professionals Board and member of the JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) Committee to the Executive Board.
Sabreena has been named a Rising Star by Thomson Reuters, a One to Watch by Best Lawyers Midwest, 40 under 40 by the Black Women's Professional League, Distinguished Alumni by the Public Interest Law Initiative, and Outstanding Urban Professional of the Year from the African American Contractor Association (AACA).
