Michelle A. Travis

Michelle Travis is a Professor of Law and Director of the Work Law and Justice Program at the University of San Francisco School of Law. She is a founding member of the Work and Family Researchers Network and a former Chair of the AALS Section on Employment Discrimination Law. Michelle is an expert on sex discrimination, disability accommodation, workplace flexibility, and work/family integration law. Her interdisciplinary scholarship reveals how antidiscrimination law could be used to eliminate structural, organizational, and cognitive biases in the workplace. Her most recent article, A Post-Pandemic Antidiscrimination Approach to Workplace Flexibility, demonstrates how employers’ experiences during the global pandemic support the use of remote work to advance workplace equity and inclusion.

Michelle teaches courses on employment law and civil litigation, and she has won multiple teaching awards. She has a J.D. from Stanford Law School and a B.A. in psychology from Cornell University. Her recent book, Dads For Daughters, focuses on engaging men in advancing gender equity. Michelle is also the author of an award-winning children’s picture book, My Mom Has Two Jobs, which celebrates working moms.
