KATHERINE (KATE) BEAUMONT KERN has served as a Federal Administrative Judge with the Merit Systems Protection Board since 2014. Prior to coming to MSPB, Kate worked as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for ten years – 5 years for the Western District of Texas in San Antonio and 5 years for the Northern District of Illinois in Chicago. Kate worked in the Civil Division of each office, prosecuting civil fraud cases and defending the United States and its agencies and employees in civil cases. Kate started her career working in private practice in Chicago after graduating from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 1998 and a law degree (cum laude) from the same school in 2001. Kate was an adjunct professor in the trial advocacy program at the University of Texas School of Law in Austin and has served as a guest lecturer at the Northwestern Pritzker School of Law; the University of Illinois School of Law; and the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s training facility (National Advocacy Center) in Columbia, South Carolina.
